In 2025, renewable energy generated more electricity than coal for the first time in history. Solar and wind are now the fastest-growing energy sources on Earth, cutting costs, emissions, and uncertainty with every project built.
The clean energy transition is happening. And it’s working.
Renewable energy is delivering real, measurable results. Cleaner air, lower costs, and stronger communities.
Every turbine and solar panel represents more than technology. It’s a sign that hope is reasonable, practical even. The decisions made over the last decade to invest, to innovate, and to believe, are paying off in the form of a cleaner, more resilient world.
In 2025, the world passed a milestone that would have seemed impossible a generation ago. Renewables surpassed coal. Solar output grew 33% year-over-year, while wind generation rose another 7%. Together, these sources met 83% of global demand growth, displacing fossil fuels for the first time on record.
This marks a fundamental shift. Clean power is the backbone of new energy. The world’s energy system is changing faster than experts expected, and the momentum is now irreversible.
In 2024, 91% of new renewable capacity worldwide produced power at a lower cost than fossil fuels. The cost of solar has fallen 75%, wind 62%, and batteries 93% since 2010. That’s not because of subsidies, it’s because of scale, innovation, and learning.
Renewables are now the most affordable way to generate electricity across much of the world. Doing the right thing for the planet has finally become the most cost-effective thing to do.
Nova Scotia’s energy story is transforming just as rapidly. Two decades ago, 89% of the province’s electricity came from coal. Today, Nova Scotia is on track to reach 80% renewables by 2030.
This shift is powered by a combination of community projects, local investment, and a commitment to grid modernization. And soon, for the first time, Nova Scotians will have a choice. Renewall’s launch will give homes and businesses access to locally generated wind power: clean, reliable energy at stable, predictable rates.
The benefits of clean energy ripple through communities. Across Atlantic Canada, the clean economy is creating thousands of new jobs in construction, operations, and maintenance. Many of these jobs are in regions once dependent on fossil fuels.
Renewable projects also bring new tax revenue and infrastructure to rural areas, strengthening local economies and services. When people see progress in motion, when they feel the stability of lower costs and cleaner air, hope scales. It becomes something shared, visible, and deeply local.
The next hopeful chapter is already being written. Global forecasts show renewables will double again by 2030. Each milestone accelerates the next. For Canada, the opportunity is to act with clarity and conviction. The path to energy independence and economic resilience runs through renewables. The more we build, the faster progress comes, and the more affordable and reliable energy becomes for everyone.
The climate story doesn’t have to be one of fear. It can be one of progress. Renewable energy is proving what’s possible: affordable power, stronger communities, and a planet moving in the right direction.
The future is already being built.
